Amerisleep AS3 Review (2026): Medium Memory Foam for Side & Back Sleepers

How we put this review together: This is a research-based review, not a hands-on test. We compared Amerisleep’s published construction, firmness, certifications, prices, trial, and warranty terms on Amerisleep.com in October 2026, and checked how the AS3 fits against the rest of Amerisleep’s lineup. Read more about how we research.

The Amerisleep AS3 is the brand’s middle-of-the-road mattress: a 12-inch, medium-feel bed built around Amerisleep’s plant-based Bio-Pur® memory foam. It’s aimed at the largest group of shoppers — side and back sleepers who want pressure relief without feeling stuck in the mattress. Here’s what’s inside, who it suits, and who should look elsewhere.

Who the AS3 is best for

  • Side sleepers who need the shoulders and hips to sink in enough to stay aligned.
  • Back sleepers who want a balance of cushioning and lower-back support.
  • Couples who want good motion isolation — a strength of all-foam beds.
  • Eco-minded shoppers who prefer foam made partly with plant-based oils and a mattress made in the USA.

Who should consider something else

  • Stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers may want more support — Amerisleep’s firmer AS2 (medium-firm) is the better fit.
  • Petite side sleepers or anyone who wants a plush feel should look at the softer AS5.
  • Shoppers who want bounce and edge support should consider the AS3 Hybrid, which adds pocketed coils.
  • Anyone who dislikes the slow-sinking feel of memory foam may prefer a latex or hybrid mattress.

  • Refresh Cover: a knit cover made with minerals that Amerisleep says convert body heat into far-infrared energy. Amerisleep claims it stays 7 degrees cooler over an eight-hour night than a traditional 100% polyester cover. It’s removable and washable.
  • Bio-Pur® comfort layer: Amerisleep’s memory foam made with renewable plant-based oils, with an open-cell structure intended to let heat escape and to respond faster than traditional memory foam.
  • HIVE® transition layer: zoned support — firmer under the head, back, and legs, with extra cushioning at the shoulders and hips. This zoning is what makes the AS3 a strong side-sleeper option.
  • Bio-Core® base: the durable support foam that gives the mattress its structure.

Amerisleep says its foams are CertiPUR-US® certified and low in VOCs, and that the mattress is fiberglass-free. It’s made in the USA from U.S. and imported components, with covers sewn in Canada.

Firmness and feel

Amerisleep rates the AS3 a 5 out of 10 — medium, between the AS2 (6, medium-firm) and the AS5 (3, plush). In practice, a medium memory foam bed like this usually gives a gentle “hug” around the shoulders and hips with enough support to keep the spine level for most average-weight side and back sleepers. Heavier people tend to experience any mattress as softer than its rating, and lighter people as firmer.

Does it sleep cool?

Traditional memory foam has a reputation for trapping heat. The AS3 addresses this with open-cell Bio-Pur® foam and the Refresh Cover. Those design choices should help, but all-foam beds still generally sleep warmer than hybrids with coils. If you run very hot, the AS3 Hybrid‘s coil layer adds airflow — and pairing either one with breathable sheets helps (see our best sheets for hot sleepers).

AS3 vs AS3 Hybrid

The AS3 Hybrid keeps the AS3’s medium comfort but swaps in pocketed coils for a bouncier feel, more airflow, and typically stronger edges. It costs more: a queen lists at $1,949 and was on sale for $1,349 in October 2026, versus $1,749 list / $1,149 sale for the all-foam AS3. Choose the all-foam AS3 for the best motion isolation and value; choose the Hybrid if you want bounce, easier movement, or a cooler sleep.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Medium feel with zoned support suits the largest group of sleepers — side and back
  • Plant-based Bio-Pur® foam, CertiPUR-US® certified, made in the USA
  • Strong motion isolation for couples
  • Long 20-year warranty and a 100-night trial with free returns
  • Hybrid version available if you want coils

Cons

  • All-foam beds generally sleep warmer than hybrids, despite the cooling features
  • Probably too soft for stomach sleepers and many heavier back sleepers
  • Memory foam’s slow-response feel isn’t for everyone
  • Cooling and comfort claims come from Amerisleep and haven’t been independently verified by us

The bottom line

The Amerisleep AS3 is a sensible default for side and back sleepers who want a medium memory foam bed made with plant-based foam, backed by a 100-night trial and a 20-year warranty. Stomach sleepers should look at the firmer AS2, plush-lovers at the AS5, and hot sleepers or anyone who wants bounce at the AS3 Hybrid.
