Amerisleep AS2 vs AS3 vs AS5 (2026): Which Firmness Is Right for You?

How we put this comparison together: This is a research-based comparison, not a hands-on test. We compared Amerisleep’s published firmness ratings, construction, prices, trial, and warranty for each model on Amerisleep.com in October 2026. Read more about how we research.

Amerisleep’s three core mattresses share the same plant-based foam, cooling cover, zoned support, trial, and warranty — the real difference is how firm they feel and, for the AS5, an extra soft layer and more height. Pick the right firmness for your sleep position and body, and you’ve picked the right Amerisleep. Here’s how the AS2, AS3, and AS5 compare.

Quick answer

  • Choose the AS2 (medium-firm) if you sleep on your back or stomach, or you’re a heavier sleeper who needs more support.
  • Choose the AS3 (medium) if you’re a side or combination sleeper of average weight — it’s the middle ground and the best fit for most people.
  • Choose the AS5 (soft) if you’re a lighter side sleeper or simply love a plush, sink-in feel.

What they have in common

All three are built from the same family of materials, which is why the choice really comes down to feel:

  • Refresh Cover — a breathable knit cover that Amerisleep says stays about 7 degrees cooler over an eight-hour night than a traditional polyester cover.
  • Bio-Pur® comfort foam — Amerisleep’s plant-based, open-cell memory foam, CertiPUR-US® certified and low in VOCs.
  • HIVE® zoned layer — firmer support under the head, back, and legs with extra cushioning at the shoulders and hips.
  • Bio-Core® base — the durable support foam underneath.
  • Same terms — 100-night trial, free shipping and returns, a 20-year warranty (10 years full replacement for defects including sagging over 1.5 inches, then 10 years prorated), and made in the USA from U.S. and imported components, with covers sewn in Canada.

Amerisleep AS2: medium-firm support

The AS2 is Amerisleep’s firmest core model at 6/10. Amerisleep says it’s ideal for back and stomach sleepers, who need the hips held up so the lower back doesn’t sag. It’s also the least expensive of the three — a queen was $949 on sale in October 2026 — and it comes only in all-foam.

Skip it if you sleep mainly on your side and are average weight or lighter; it may feel too firm at the shoulders.

Amerisleep AS3: the medium middle ground

The AS3 is the medium (5/10) model and the one most people should start with. Its balance of pressure relief and support suits side and back sleepers and couples with different positions. It’s also available as the AS3 Hybrid, which adds pocketed coils for bounce, airflow, and edge support. Read our full Amerisleep AS3 review.

Skip it if you sleep on your stomach (choose the AS2) or want a truly plush feel (choose the AS5).

Amerisleep AS5: soft and plush

The AS5 is the softest at 3/10 and the tallest at 14 inches, thanks to an extra Active Flex layer of responsive foam that adds softness and bounce. Amerisleep recommends it for side sleepers, and it’s a natural fit for lighter and petite side sleepers who don’t sink far into firmer beds. It’s the most expensive model — a queen was $1,749 on sale — and also comes as the AS5 Hybrid ($2,049 sale for a queen).

Skip it if you’re a stomach sleeper or a heavier back sleeper — it’s likely too soft to keep your spine aligned. Heavier side sleepers who still want a soft feel should look at the AS5 Hybrid for extra support.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Amerisleep AS2, AS3, and AS5?

Mainly firmness: the AS2 is medium-firm (6/10), the AS3 is medium (5/10), and the AS5 is soft (3/10). The AS5 also adds an Active Flex layer and is 14 inches tall versus 12 inches for the others.

Which Amerisleep mattress is best for side sleepers?

The AS3 for most average-weight side sleepers, and the AS5 for lighter side sleepers or anyone who wants a plush feel.

Which Amerisleep mattress is best for back pain?

Back and stomach sleepers usually do best with the firmer AS2; side sleepers with back pain often prefer the AS3’s zoned support. A mattress isn’t a medical treatment — persistent back pain is worth discussing with a healthcare professional.

Do all Amerisleep mattresses have the same trial and warranty?

Yes — the AS2, AS3, and AS5 all come with a 100-night trial, free shipping and returns, and a 20-year warranty.

Is there a hybrid AS2?

Not currently. Amerisleep offers hybrid versions of the AS3 and AS5 only.
